In 2013, Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) embarked on a major reform program 'OT2025: Securing Our Future'. An extensive review of the business’ structure and terms and conditions of employment was conducted to ensure that OTML’s workforce profile would meet future requirements. As a consequence, the manning establishment of the business was reduced and some department structures were revised. A review of core activities was also conducted and some functions of the business were outsourced while others were insourced.
Coupled with changes to manning numbers was a full-scale review of rosters, accommodation, messing and travel arrangements. Many employees were moved to Fly-In, Fly-Out rosters and most operational areas moved to an even-time, 14-days-on, 14-days-off rosters. The number of ports flown to by OTML aircraft was reduced but these are now serviced more frequently. Five 108-man accommodation units were also constructed providing a vastly improved standard of on-site accommodation.
In 2014, the 'OT2025: Securing Our Future' reforms were implemented and have since been successfully embedded. The results: a business that has the right people, with the right skills, in the right jobs and is able to respond to today’s challenges and those of the future; a motivated and committed workforce with world class rosters, terms and conditions and accommodation.
Our journey continues with the development of OTML’s Future Mode of Operations (FMO). Strategic in nature, the FMO defines the keys levers that can be implemented to ensure OTML remains competitive in tomorrow’s resource sector. It also defines those capabilities the business will develop to achieve the OTML vision: We are a sustainable, efficient and well regarded operating company that delivers value to all our stakeholders.
The implementation of SAP as OTML’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System is a foundation of the Future Mode of Operations.
