The Ok Tedi Emergency Response Team (ERT) has been selected for the Extractive Industries Emergency Response Challenge (EIERC).

The EIERC will be held in Madang at the Maritime College from October 2 to 4.

John Doyle, Superintendent Fire and Rescue, when confirming Ok Tedi ERT said it was a challenge finalising the team as they had to take into consideration the roster and training schedule.

“We have to overcome that by doing training on shift and prior to the team leaving, they will all come together for a week of intense training before the challenge,” he said.

The 2017 Ok Tedi ERT is, Elias Tokom, Claude George, William Cardigan, Robin Ignatius, John Burat, Thomas Konhanem and Andrew Baida.

Mr Dolye reiterated the team selected was based on skills level, experience and availability.

“I do believe our team will be competitive, we have a make-up that is quite varied with some of our team members having represented Ok Tedi previously at other challenges while some have represented their former employer also at previous challenges.”

“The team have demonstrated their abilities and they should complement each other very well,” he said.

He added there was no pressure on the team to bring back the emergency rescue challenge cup.

“I would like them to just go out there, represent Ok Tedi with pride. There is no strategy, it’s not a competition because every team gets the opportunity to show and demonstrate their skills and competency.”

“If we are fortunate enough to pick up some silverware that would be fantastic,” added Mr Dolye.
