Ok Tedi Mining Limited signs Extended MoU with Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary Special Services Division

Ok Tedi Mining Limited (Ok Tedi) today signed an extended Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary to continue the engagement of the Special Services Division (Mobile Squads) at its operations in Tabubil.

This agreement reinforces Ok Tedi’s commitment to maintaining a safe and secure operating environment while supporting law enforcement in Western Province.

Ok Tedi’s General Manager Social Performance and Sustainability Jesse Pile said, “This MoU extension and partnership is important for us at Ok Tedi as it emphasises our commitment to community and operational safety. We want to ensure our employees and assets are protected while also supporting our sustainability goals of maintaining peace in our mine-associated communities.”

“We are extremely grateful for the support that we receive from the Constabulary in our operations in Tabubil, Kiunga, Fly River, and across the country in any other Ok Tedi engagement; and it is important to note that your support to us is contributing to our success and that of Papua New Guinea as we are 100% PNG-owned,” Mr Pile added.

“The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary is aware of the importance of extending this MoU for security and law enforcement purposes. The past 5 years has had its fair share of triumphs and challenges, and we look forward to continuing this partnership with Ok Tedi to deliver on our goals for this project,” said Acting Commissioner of Police (ACP), Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary, Samson Kua.

ACP Kua further reiterated their pride in supporting Ok Tedi in its operational ventures to maintain law and order and security for its assets in its operational areas.  He further thanked Ok Tedi for its continuous support to the Constabulary citing the building of the Tabubil police single quarters housing project over the recent years, the building of the Ningerum police barracks inclusive of offices and residential houses for its personnel, and finally the donation of vehicles to the Constabulary.

The extended MoU marks a significant step in strengthening collaboration between Ok Tedi and the Constabulary, ensuring improved security and community confidence for the next five years.
