our journey
Over our 40+ years of operation, Ok Tedi has grown from a straightforward mining company into a diverse and well-respected national entity driving national progress.
Originally formed as a partnership between BHP (as the majority shareholder), the PNG Government, Amoco Corporation and Inmet Mining Corporation, the company commenced mining at Mount Fubilan in 1984 and has been in continuous operation ever since.
BHP exited the operation in 2002 and Ok Tedi has operated as a fully Papua New Guinea owned entity since 2012.
Our current shareholding structure includes a 67 percent direct shareholding by the Independent State of PNG, and the remaining 33 percent held by the people of the Western Province.
As a wholly nationally owned company, 100% of the benefits from our operations are returned to the people of Western Province and the State.
