Ok Tedi Mining Limited (Ok Tedi), and its wholly owned subsidiary Misima Minerals Limited (MML), have completed the second round of community engagement meetings for the proposed Misima Gold Project.
The meetings are part of Ok Tedi’s commitment to keeping the landowners, district government and stakeholders from the island informed of the project status and work plans going forward.
The engagement sessions provided communities with updates on progress made since the initial consultations in December 2025 and reaffirmed key aspects of the project’s five-year development plan.
Ok Tedi commenced early works as part of phase 1 since February 2026 to establish the infrastructure needed to support feasibility and mine development works. Environment and social impact studies and mine development plans are being progressed to secure environmental permit and mining licence by middle of 2027.
Infrastructure initiatives under assessment or development are
- Establishment of the accommodation units to cater for more than 150 people with a health clinic, messing facilities, and basic amenities to support the project.
- Misima airstrip to be upgraded in consultation with the Provincial Transport Authority in line with National Airport Corporation requirements to cater Dash-8 and ATR aircrafts landing.
- Repairing access roads to the mine site to support the mine development works as well as local communities.
- Misima District Hospital to be upgraded and resourced to serve the locals as well as Ok Tedi and MML staff. The hospital will be supported to conduct pre-employment medical checks to support local Misimans’ employment.
“Open and transparent dialogue with Misima communities is essential as we progress this project,” said General Manager for Social Performance and Sustainability, Jesse Pile.
“These engagements allow us to openly share information, listen to community perspectives, and set realistic expectations as we progress towards mine redevelopment.”
The company will continue to hold regular communities/stakeholder engagements to ensure they have all information they need to make informed decisions. The engagement also strengthens relationship based on trust and respect.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Director, Kedi Ilimbit, says Ok Tedi’s Five Year Development Plan of the Misima Gold project is structured in three key phases: Detailed Feasibility and Permitting, Construction, and Production.
“We are currently working on these phases to ensure Misima Gold Project becomes operational,” said Mr. Ilimbit.
